Who runs the WHC ?
WHC is run by Mrs Sunanda Mukherji.
WHC started its journey with the vision and effort of Sunanda.
Sunanda lives in Bolpur. She has been associated with various women's welfare organisations often as one of the office-bearers. Sunanda observed, that many of these women's organisations, despite their best intentions, could not provide required financial solutions or support to the women-in-need. Such organisations often have a rather complex structure and modus operandi. The complexity often arises from their association with governments or other benefactors. Hence, the marginalised ladies desperately attempt to set up their own 'nanoscopic' enterprises and try to sell their hand-embroidered products, often confronting financial exploitation by traders. Sunanda started WHC very humbly in 1991.
In 2004, WHC is still a very humble, yet focussed organisation. Its main tool of marketing is through the word of mouth and to provide its clientele a superior product at a reasonable price. WHC has not attempted seriously to expand its market through a lot of media coverage. It does not have the budget or the inclination. Any extra earning goes to the ladies.
Sunanda finances, supervises and markets the entire program, herself being a gifted embroiderer. Sunanda is very much a part of every WHC-woman's family ---- in good times and in need.
